Hi all, I'm a new faceter with some questions about polishing? sometimes when I facet it doesn't polish all of the facet so I change the angel or cheater and that sometimes causes the polish to make it look like there is two facets, you can clearly see the separation, how do I get rid of this? Is it normal? Thanks

Try coloring the facet with a black Sharpie before touching it to the lap, lightly. Adjust until the entire Sharpie coloring is removed from the facet when lightly pressed to lap.

To eliminate the double facets, gradually adjust the cheater as you continue to polish and it will eventually smooth away the ridge. Frequently check progress with a marker and tweak the cheater as necessary to pull the dominant facet across the surface. It's tedious but it works.
In the future, always use lse138’s marker technique to establish full area contact with the lap before you start polishing.

You are adjusting your cheater too far. Always adjust the cheater in very small steps, or get the facet flat on the lap to start with, as recommended.

i try to "hit" the facet perfectly before intensing polishing work. Which means, when you start to polish a facet, just touch it very lightly to the lap so you can see if you are on the facet or adjust the cheater to get on the facet. then just some slight polish and check again. Normally if the prepolish and cutting part worked fine and you did not correct too much, this should be only on the first facet. But if not you have to "find the facet" when you polish. So my polishing rule is to look more often and polish not too much before you are not sure that you found the facet.
