I was recently asked to write a guest blog on how I got started in the gem trade and how I eventually helped to start the Institute of Gem Trading and become a professional gem cutter and cutting teacher in Bangkok. I thought you guys might like a little weekend reading :)

Justinkprim,

That was a great read and your journey sounds like a blast (probably interspersed with other stories of choices made). Truly enjoyed the read and will keep coming back and visiting your other site(s). Sounds like you've found a passion and ridden it to a place where you're happy.

The pictures there (both the handful of crystals <tourmaline in there?>) and the re-cut jumped out and made me want to delve deeper into the renaissance cuts and see how faceting has evolved (I do know some of it, but not to any expert depth)

Thanks for the pointer and taking the time to send it on. Let me know when your book finally makes it to publication and I'll definitely give it a go.

I had no idea there was show called Gem Hunt. I watched the first episode last night. It was so much fun.

Thanks for the kind words. It's definitely been a lot of fun and made many new friends in the process. I will definitely be letting the whole community know when the book is ready. I am working on it now and plan to have the "brief" history book out this year and then the big book in a few more years when I've had more time to do research :)
