Post subject:  review of twistor 2 with diamatrix center

I bought a twistor 2 with a diamatrix center and have cut 2 stones so far. A Topaz and a CZ. I was able to not only move faces but was able to recut faces after I dropped the stone and chipped out a corner.

There was a little orange peel on one of the topaz faces, but it polished out very easily. I used a mister connected to a push button to control the amount of water on the lap. If I kept the twistor 2 portion damp so a little of the swarf built up on the lap the prepolish was so good that the new students I was teaching asked if they were done. Every face polished in 2-3 seconds on the diamatrix with polish. I tried 50,000 spray diamond, some of the adamas slurry, and gearloose 60,000 diamond. They all polished both CZ and topaz very easily. I hope to try some sapphire and ruby soon, but there is a lot going on so I wanted to at least make this post.

The lap worked so well that the students that I was teaching asked the club to buy the lap for the shop. Today the shop approved the purchase of a twistor 2 with diamatrix for the club.

I forgot to mention where I bought the lap. It was from Adamas Facet

https://www.adamasfacet.com/

(I have no affiliation with them).

I have seen the twistor 2 listed on his site, but I have not see the one I bought with the diamatrix center. I found out about it when sent him a PM asking if it as available.
You can contact Tom on the contact us from his web page.

I had a person over the other day who wanged to learn to facet. They had bought a used Ultratech in very good condition and there was some quarts on a dop that we used. it had been cut into a SRB by the previous owner.

I had her recut it into the GEM101 pattern.

After polishing all of the P1 facets we noticed that she had not cut deep enough and there was still a sliver of one of the SRB facets left. (maybe 2mm wide)

The Twistor 2 was able to recut the Pavilion getting rid of the offending sliver, and then recut all of the P1 facets.

This was a pretty big move of the facets that the twisor handled without a problem.

We polished the faces with Zediox™ polishing compound, and it polished the quarts in about 3 seconds for each facet.

I kept the UT at a slow speed, (1-2 on the speed control) and the water drip was on the division between the diamatrix and the twistor 2.

I was recommending thus lap to a friend, and he looked up old reviews. He pointed out that in a review of the zinc+. In the review I said that I liked it better than the twistor. That was compared to the original version, which lost the ability to move meets over time.

THE NEW ONE IS MUCH DIFFERNT.

It not only moves meets, but I have recut an entire tier when I overcut one facet.

I think that it can change things as much ad the diamatrix material has. (or at least has for me)

The original Twistor was a product manufactured by Gearloose Lapidary LLC and was solely a prepolishing lap which required periodic deglazing of the surface with acetone. Gearloose halted the manufacture due to abrasive wear on his lathe.
The Twistor2 is a product of Adamas Instrument Corporation which has a much higher diamond concentration, a slightly larger average grit size, twice the thickness of diamond layer, and a dynamically balanced hub. The surface does not glaze.
These products are different in every specification. The only similarity is the tradename.
The TwoZone wheel is a collaborative product of Gearloose and Adamas. Adamas Twistor2 outer ring and Gearloose polishing inner ring.
