I think one of the worst things is watching people post insanely stupid guesses on requests for rock or gem ID. It's true you typically can't firmly ID something from a photo, but that doesn't mean any 'ol guess is OK.

Yep, I will ask those folks if they measured the RI, SG and hardness. Usually, they have not. If they do that nonsense again, I block them.

I literally cannot figure out how to make my pictures small enough to post here, so I stopped.

No offense, but resizing pictures is pretty trivial, and any photo editing software will let you do it quickly. I typically use IRFANview for this, since it's free and hotkeys make it especially quick for simple edits like resizing. If you're uploading to imgur you can upload full size and use the large thumbnail which is automatically generated by adding 'l' to the end of your image URL.
It isnt limited out of persnicketyness, some of our members have slow enough connections for it to make a big difference, especially in image heavy threads

Facebook *does* have pictures of gemstones. A whole lot of them. Pictures large enough to make out details.

Sometimes diagnostic features can be made out from photos, usually enough information to exclude possibilities. And yet people will make one-word posts with the dumbest possible guesses that the available information (limited as it is) clearly exclude. Very much not my jam.
