Hi
I am a beginner and am learning faceting.
How to use PANDEMONIUM DIAMOND POLISH STICKS from gearloose. I will be using it on batt lap.
Do i need to mix it with oil/water or i can directly charge the lap with the pendemonium stick.
Will be working on perodot, tourmaline, beryls, topaz and occasionally quartz, sapphire.

Cheers

Pandemonium is compatible with either oil or water. Apply directly with the stick, sparingly. I use water as a lubricant, but only a fine mist, sparingly.

It's available either with conventional blocky diamond (PANDMD or polycrystalline diamond (PANPCD). I like the PANPCD.

Are there other good polishing pastes availabe?
Please suggest?
Or these gearloose polishing compounds are best option?
if someone could upload a video on how to use pandemonium sticks with oil/water then it will be great so that i don't use it too much or too less stick and oil/water.

cheers

I charge my laps by lightly misting them with water while they are spinning perhaps 60 rpm. No other water drip.

I have less than 1mm of the stick exposed, and draw it across the spinning lap to leave a spiral of compound on the surface. I then use a pice of synthetic sapphire boule to smoooth and spread out the compound while helping it embed into the surface. I run the sapphire over the lap back and forth a few times for perhaps 30 seconds. Some people will smear the diamond compound on the stationary lap with their fingertip using a circular motion befor e using the sapphire boule.

I then turn on the water drip to 1-2 drips per second, and start cutting.

Same situation if you choose to use oil - thin thin layer of oil on the lap slowly spinning, spiral of compound, spread out and embed with a sapphire boule. Wipe off excess and start cutting.

Initially BATT laps will absorb a LOT of diamond. You may find yourself needing to charge the lap several times when cutting the first stone. It should turn an even dull grey once fully-charged and then will only need to be charged every couple of stones, depending on the size and what you're cutting.

Hope the helps.
