Thank again Stephen. Re: captions, welcome to my world. In all media they usually require a lot of guessing and interpretation to get the real gist, i.e., sanctuary cities is usually rendered "century cities" and so on.

Now I really understand more about Rose channels thanks to the print GIA link you sent. I really appreciate your taking the trouble to follow up.

I have quite a few of these corundums, and have found that a drop of glycerine is really helpful in locating where the stars might be. They sell glycerine at Michaels and Hobby Lobby in the baking department, evidently it's an additive for icing. Some folks use honey, but it doesn't ball up as well as the glycerine.

I remember polishing a particularly pretty red one on the c axis and looking for the star and, unbelievably, one appeared on the side. It was too flat to get to and I figure it must have been the result of twinning. Whoever said that having a sheen on the C is no predictor of a star being there is absolutely correct.
