It is with great sadness I'd like to announce Dr. Hanneman passed away on December 12, 2020. His legacy will live on forever!

Hi,
I am getting ready to charge a BATT with a 3k Diastick and another with a 60k Diastik. I am wondering what my options are for extender fluid. I have heard a lot of people use WD-40 but I am hoping to use something with less odor since I am setup in my house with two little kids. I have heard some people use olive oil or baby oil. Are these as effective as WD-40? Do I even need an extender or is there enough lubricant in the Diastik? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

Why not use one of the extenders Gearloose, who makes your lap and Diastik, sells. They work great, and are odorless.

Yes, that lamp fuel will work fine. We have constraints on shipping and liability so avoid things that require a Flammable label or an ORM-D shipping classification. Obviously lamp fuel is flammable-Otherwise it would be silly to make it.

I find the viscosity of Ultra pure lamp oil a little thin to my liking. It makes a good cleaner of swarf and to dry off just light it up. Just kidding do not do this. For charging I stick to Jon's Wd40 recommendations. For continuing use it is wd40, snake and or crystal lube.

For those who haven't used Ultra Pure, it is similar to kerosene but odorless. It doesn't have the flash point of naphtha or petroleum solvents. Like WD40, you would have to intentionally hold a flame on it to ignite it.
