Some of the "designer " synthetics like RAMAURA get very high prices. The Ruby in my opinion is the most realistic synthetic on the market.

For the one site you mentioned (the MiaDonna one), do you have any idea what type of synthetics they are and where to find them? I retired on 1 Jan and I really want to dedicate some real time faceting and those look absolutely fabulous. I think my daughter and wife would mug me before I could get them off the dop if I was ever able to even come close to something of that color or quality.

My thanks,

Bob

Hi Bob,
I hope you are well, and wish you the best in the new year, and in your upcoming retirement.

The colors and textures on the MiaDonna website look very much to me like what Chatham is producing. They are also offer only the exact same varieties of stone that Chatham produces, so that may also be a good indicator. The methods that Chatham uses are very close to the natural processes, and the stones look very natural when cut for that reason.

The current Chatham website only shows mounted Jewelry, but historically has sold both loose gemstones, and rough. I think I remember reading that Tom Chatham retired recently. He didn't mention that the last time I saw him at the Las Vegas show a couple of years ago. I'm not sure how this might impact what nd to whom they sell to.

Someone here may have these answers. If not, We could spend a little time and run this information down.

Steve

2019 Tucson Gjx show was Chatham's last Gjx show I believe. Retirement is what we heard. Their booth became a hot spot to get for the 2020 show, forget off hand who ended up with it. Not sure about where someone may get some of the material. I remember speaking to them and was told not much rough available, that 2019. I picked up some the reject boules then, not all useable but some.

Steve, Ghays,

As always, thanks for the pointers and I'll do some snoop and poop and see what I can track down. If I find anything (or nothing), I'll post back here what I found or a request for anyone that may be able to find additional info. Truly in awe at those colors and the cuts.

Never have been a big fan of synthetics, but just having some of those under my belt would be time well spent.

Thanks again,

Bob,
You can get those colors and types from the standard synthetic suppliers out there like GemandGems in Bangkok, and the Russians if you want. Very affordable.
