1. I was wondering when you go to use a lap does the diamond grit need to be the same size as the lap? For example just say your using a 1200 lap, would the diamond grit have to be 1200 as well?
2. Which order do you cutt and polish, is it cut pavillion polish pavillion cutt crown and polish crown... Or is it the oppisite? If this question makes any sense.

I think there may be some confusion here. If you buy a lap which is designated 1200, the grit is already embedded in the lap, and you don't need to add any.

If you use a lap which does not have diamond already, you can charge it with whatever you like. Once charged, you must stay with that grit or larger.

Probably the most common cutting order is cut, then polish the pavilion, then do the crown, and finally the table, but some very good cutters do table first.

An inexpensive education can be had by purchasing volume 1 of Tom Herbst's book "Amateur Gemstone Faceting", available from Amazon.
