I am considering permanently mounting my Facetron in a “Butcher Block” workbench. For those of you that have mounted their machine into a bench, would you do things differently now if you had it to do over again?

Personally I prefer my machine to be higher than table height. I like it when it is in its base sitting on a table. For me it is more ergonomic, making inspection of the stone easier, and much less bending over.

Both of my machines are flush-mounted. One in a cheap wooden office desk from Salvation Army, one in a purpose-built table (2x4's and plywood, nothing fancy). A couple of simple additions like a peg to hold index gears, a hook for an optovisor, etc. I wouldn't change anything.

I don't find the height to be an issue. I use a typist's chair, which has quick height adjustment. I like to lower it when cutting girdles.

I purchased a pre-made countertop from Home Depot, along with drawer units to hold it up..

Cut out a hole to allow the machine to fit (leave as much lip for support as possible), then used the same hardware as held it in the original wood base.

One problem - the cord on my 1990 machine was only on held by the wiring connected to the controller, so I tapped a short hole in the bottom of the base and installed a bracket to keep the cord secure. A newer (2019) machine I own has the cord connected better.

I "go mobile" to demo at shows, so I want a lamp in the same relative position in both cases for consistent viewing. Mounted a flex-lamp base in both in the same position to the base.

I mounted my machine on a kitchen cabinet, on top of a sink. the water drain directly to the draining system so that's a plus.
recently I decided to put it back to it's base.
I think most important is that it should sit in a hight and distance that is comfort to you.
I have back issues ,so it was very difficult to find a correct position ,so
I won't have to bend too much when checking meets on different mast Hight or stretch my arms too much...
with the Facetron I found it best for me ,if the machine sit about 15" infront of my shoulders, with the mast hight between my upper belly to my chin.

I’ve done 3 so far, two UT and a Facette. Definitely highly recommended. They key is to find a setup that is comfortable for you. The desk height and the chair height are the the two main variables along with the distance from the edge. Having the machine close to the desk top makes the desk a much nicer work area since it’s at the same level as the machine. One of my machines is set up for standing wok and is mostly used for performing. The others are in desks. Personally I like to have the lap as close to “in my lap” as possible. Not having to hold your hands up high tends to be more comfortable in long hours of cutting.

I finally got my courage up and did it. Not perfect, but a lot better than before.

Looks great to me. As well appears like a sturdy setup. Good job!

I don't regret it at all. I custom made this desk just for faceting. Unfortunately, work has commandeered a large portion of my desk and my main monitor since this pandemic started.
