does anyone know about if you use 600 diamond paste on a 600 grit lap as a prepolish then go straight to polishing with a batt lap with 50000 diamond paste will your gem turn out dull?
should i have used atleast 5000 diamond paste on a tin plus batt lap for the pre polish then go to regular poliish. i feel like i totally skipped the pre polish. also on the batt lap your aparently supposed to lubricate it, and i did that with olive oil, is that ok?
It is not that your stone will turn out dull. A 50K polish is a 50K polish. It will be a matter of how long it takes to get the polish to 50K. Going straight from 600 that may take some time.
My preferred method would be:
600 grit to 8K to 50K. You can tune up your meet points easily on the 8K, and the 50K polish time will be measured in seconds not minutes.

Agreed, 600 to 50k is a stretch, if looking for an arm workout and possibly some other issue to arise while trying to get the end result of the 50k polish, it can be done and has been. The quality of the 600 laps finish has to be considered, as well as the gem being polished. 600 | 3k or 8k | 50k is my process as well, depending on the job I may use 20k for the finish of the pavilion. The viscosity of Olive oil is a bit thin in my opinion, I prefer Wd-40, and yes some lubrication can be beneficial depending on the paste your using.
