Wow has it gotten that bad? I used to help moderate a forum and I think I remember the main moderator did have to do some sort of backend daily clean up. Excuse my impatience.
I think I will go and make myself a Spam sandwich in the meantime.
What part of the world are you from and what gemstones are you interested in.
Thanks for the warm welcome. I am a goldsmith in Denver, Co. In the last year I have taken on gem sculpting and faceting as well to open up more creative possibilities.
I have been reading the archives and taking notes here for a long time, and felt it was time to take part in discussions now that I have cut some stones.
Recently I acquired a piece of near flawless grandidierite to cut and will certainly get some suggestions from whoever chimes in when the door opens for me here.
I love sapphire and garnet when it comes to gems. The new blue garnets that were unearthed recently were pretty amazing, although quite small.

Hi X Jungere, do you have a picture of the grandidierite I know I would like to see the rough before you cut it and the result as well. Once you get your posts to 10 or one of the moderators may post the pic for you before then.

I thought I would put this stone up as a way of putting it to bed. I found it a very unforgiving cut that at some stages wanted to suck my 'Heart and Soul'. And now it's blown up in all it's glory I can see it's not quite right. Anyway 7ct lab created sapphire.

Thank you. It started as a joke. I bought a bunch of YAG from an estate sale. I showed this boule end around. "Seems a shame to saw it up". "Do it! Do it!" It did not take all that long...YAG is pretty easy. I did it fast and loose so the meets are not perfect, etc.etc, but it's a fun synthetic, so...
Thank you kindly. That certainly is a pretty accurate color. It windows after about a 5º tilt which is expected with beryl. I tried so many different environments for a photograph. Shade or overcast outside with a simple smartphone outdid my canon eos setup in the light tent. At some point I will get some solux bulbs and see if I can nail that professional gem photo.
