I have two slightly different versions... for garnets I use slightly different angles, but it should not make any appreciable difference.
This is on (a good) garnet:
I like it in amethyst as well:
This is the one I use for quartz and such. But it should be perfectly OK also with garnet. You might want to double check, tho. I don't remember why I have two versions around, maybe I wanted to rise the crown for the garnet...
It's very easy and fast to cut. That's why I cut it ~4 times.

Here's a couple stones that I finished off this month, was hoping to get two more done but they aren't cooperating with the materials or the schedule I have. Pictures aren't so great due to issues with wear on the film coating (that should be internal) on my phone camera's porthole .
7mm watermelon tourmaline. There's a chip on the girdle and another just out of the way of the pattern, but the rough was a good price even with the flaws. I rarely see these cut any more and wanted to add one of those classic melon gems to my collection.
8mm Dark Indian garnet. Done in Marco Voltolini's Fiorello. Gives off tons of red flashes in yellow lights and sunlight, and isn't bothered at all by attempts to block light around it. The flashes are bright enough that I had to wait until evening to get a decent photo of it! It's still too dark to have the scintillation or patterns that the ray-trace shows, though.
This stuff has much better clarity than the rhodolites I have, and it's definitely softer than CZ. Maybe a traditional scissor cut is in order...
My first post on this. Picture of yellow sapphire before and after cutting.
The sapphire was handed down through my wife's family and given to me 10+ years ago by my grandmother-in-law due to my interested in collecting minerals. A year ago I started faceting and my wife wanted me to try to make something out of the stone. I probably should have waited to hone my skills but it didn't turn out terrible. It's obviously natural with a bit of silk. I turned out whiter than the specimen was yellow. Ended up 10.2 carats, mixed cut.

Is the pic of the finished stone in black and white?
Hi Barbra I does look b&w because it's was on stainless steel. It's very light yellow and silk can be seen much clearer with the camera with this shot.

Here is my first post Tucson stone. It is a 13.2 ct. amethyst, 14.6 mm. wide with concave facets on both pavilion and crown sides to add a little extra sparkle and further mask some slight color zoning.

Well, it's been years since I did my last stone so I'm still getting back into the swing of things. The meets and polish on this one could have been better, but I'm still happy with how it ended up looking.
