Well you got the hang of the fantasy machine quickly Mary! I very much like all three of those cuts, with the citrine being my favorite. It looks "quilted" =D>

And how about this unusually emerald-looking Ijero Tourmaline?

Ephsea that sapphire is huge  I am digging the 3 and/or 6 fold symmetry!

Well I'm a beginner, so these aren't too amazing compared to some of the other things here, but these are gifts I made for family members. They're some of the first serious pieces I've made. Everything prior to these has been marbles or low-grade quartz.

It's been a long while since I've posted and I've been saving quite a bit to put on here. I'm starting with this Amethyst. Stone was done at Dalan Hargrave's ranch and I have several other pictures of that experience to post. I just want to make sure this works first. Stone is 17mm and 17.64 carats.

Image

This one was done by Nolan Sponsler. He was with me at the ranch. It was hard to believe but he had only done about a dozen stones before this one.

Image

It is Congo Tourmaline. Don't have the dimensions but I know it was a bit over 7 carats finished.

I haven't had much time for cutting recently, but now that I'm furloughed I'm back at it! No sign of end to the shutdown so it's a good thing I have a lifetime supply of rough hoarded away. Here's a few, there are several more that I haven't photographed yet.

Chrysoberyl, 1.32 carats, Graham's 'Nigerian Cushion'

Little spinel, 1.07 carats, improvised round brilliant

Rhodolite, 2.12 carats, Arya's 'Ruination'

Great pictures - congratulations and at least one positive aspect of a probably unpleasant situation.

Well Bob it sucks that our roads are less safe than ever without you at your desk, but we missed you! Your improvised round design on that spinel is excellent and very interesting, I would love to see more of it! You can always drop a line if you see a piece of my rough you'd like to cut...

Scootr I love your Montana (of course, I'm a sucker for 'em) and think the size and fantastic cutting makes it a shoe-in for an engagement ring.

Paul thanks for sharing those marvelous fantasy cuts. Even being *invited* to Dalan's ranch is an honor, one you clearly deserve based on the amethyst here. Where are these other gems you said you have to share with us? More!

I decided to put more time and effort into the photos this time around and, surprise surprise, everything looks much better.

A few more examples of my UT Fantasy machine learning exercise results.

First is a 9.77 carat citrine, 18.8 x 10.3 x 8.5 mm. The mandrel was at an angle to the line of the quill.

The second is done in a similar manner. Another citrine, this one is 10.5 cts. and is 21.1 x 9.0 x 8.5 mm.

Third stone was an experiment using both straight on and angled mandrel orientation. It is a smokey quartz, 22.99 cts., 23.2 x 14.5 x 10.0 mm.

Daughter wanted to prove she can take better pictures than me. Not very hard to do, I'm AWFUL!! Last post I did the pictures were taken by Dalan Hargrave. Here's an example of mine:

Image

This is a beautiful stone, lousy photo. It is a Mozambique Tourmaline. The stone weighs 3.23 carats and is a 9.2X7.2mm Radiant Emerald.

Here's my daughters photo:

Image

This is a fairly dark Malaya that loves the Florida sun. It's from Tanzania and weighs 9.2 carats. It was done in the Long & Steele 2:1 Oval pattern.

I will admit her photography is better but we both still have a way to go. Just bought a new Canon Rebel T7i, hopefully that will make things better. Using my iPhone doesn't seem to work for me.

A 4.7mm peridot, transfer alignment was a bit off so the meets aren't super good.
Was hoping to get a rectangle, but the outer inclusions were hiding an internal fracture...
