Beautiful stones Scootr.
Looks awesome Turkinolith.

I finally got my machine fixed and managed to get a couple done.

A 2ct mystery stone, It was a preform that I thought was smokey quartz from the previous owner of my v2 but now that its done I'm sure it is a synthetic.

The second is 1ct either a green beryl or an emerald. I got a small bag of them with the machine.

Jim

You have all been cutting great stones lately! =D>

I am so bogged down with work, I don't know when I will be able to dust off my faceting machine again! At least it helps to look at the beautiful stones other people have been cutting!

Is this how it comes or is this one you've added to gsellis?

Hey Mehoose!
Great to hear from you. My website is suffering of late as most of the saffs don't make it that far after posting on Instagram. Definitely not a bad problem to have. Have you been doing any cutting? Awesome stones being cut guys.

Arya's Weltall (shallow) cut in blue Apatite. What a pain in the ass. It looks far better in person.

That turned out nicely! Where was the pain--chipping? polishing? doesn't show on the finished piece either way.
I just cut this oddball star rose quartz. I've been cutting a few recently since I got a request for one for a ring and figured it was a good opportunity to cut some more. This was the first stone I had cut from this particular piece of rough, and it looks really different from the others I've cut--it has three stars! one primary, and two secondary--the primary one moves across the full stone, while the secondary two are restricted to their own zones. I talked with Nathan a bit about it, and he suggested it was probably a combination of epiasterism (the primary star) and diasterism (the secondary stars). On closer inspection the dividing line between the secondary stars' zones is a reflective fracture, so it makes sense that it could separate the cab into two separate compartments for diasteric purposes, I guess? Whatever the explanation it looks pretty cool.

Thanks. I wasn't familiar with cutting anything under 7 mohs. So I moved a few facets trying to polish, had to recut all tiers once due to that. Then, I had some issues polishing, basically shredding a few facets. Another recut of the pavilion tiers and the girdle to leave enough room on the crown. Finally figured out how to cut it. 8k on Zinc+, then 50k D'lite lightning lap, slow with lots of water for polish. The crown was far easier, but the third tiers of facets couldn't meet the G1, C1, C2 corner, without almost removing C2 so they are barely floating to preserve the original design as much as possible.

I haven't posted in ages because I haven't cut much in ages, and my photo skills still stink. But this one was an odd one. I got a couple pieces of agate with Mn dendrites. What drew me to them was the dendrites were not just on the surface.
