The Matrix/Dominatrix and BlakStik. (The Matrix actually went on the market last Dec 23.) They make polishing consistently easy and enjoyable. Congratulations to Gearloose and Adamas.

Also, thanks from here! New products are often difficult at first, but always having something new in the works makes this more than just a production job, keeps things exciting, and is "Job Enrichment". When I first "Retired" from my career in 2006, I was mindlessly turning out BATTs, hand casting them and machining them, and not really paying attention to business. It was like those "Bar and restaurant rescue" programs, where people ran on autopilot as the business faded. A good friend, a successful commercial cutter, gave me a swift kick about it. "Either keep inventing, or just go fishing." This woke me up. "I did this for a living for other people for 45 years. What's the matter with me?" Darkside. Greenway. Etc. The BATT casting is mechanized now. This allowed me to keep the prices at 2007 despite the tripling of tin prices. The bulk of the Darkside process is completely automated now. There has been no price increase since its introduction, despite the doubling of raw materials costs. This is the bet I make when scaling up production on a new item. That one can work harder or faster or smarter. Thomas has been off in his dark corner, thinking and thinking for decades as he watched his scaiffe go round and round. Whether it's a match made in heaven, or a parody on Faust, it doesn't matter, because we are both having a lot more fun this way. As craftspeople, we all know that moment when something comes off the dop. That is exactly how it feels to have a new product that works. That's why I do not need to go work in someone else's "factory". I still get consulting offers from my old employers a couple of times a year, but never developed any enthusiasm. Sometimes I help them for free just to nicely get rid of them.

I agree about The Matrix. Clearly a leader. So if The Matrix is considered a 2012 product, then is BlakStik your favorite of 2013?

..And watch out. I am reading "Chaos" again. I do every few years. It gave me ideas in my other career as well. Someday I may even understand it. (My mind is still uncomfortable with more than four dimensions in a phase space. It makes me feel stupid.) But it was responsible for the Darkside, and gave us an understanding of why the Matrix is effective. The Matrix has a surface complexity of 1.89. (Information dimension.)
