Looks great now! What kind of stone is it?

A pink one, of course!

I had been wondering the same thing.

Sapphire?
Spinel?
Tourmaline?
Garnet?
Whatchamacallitite?

Wow - kind of dead around here!

Before and after on a large (over 1" long) heirloom amethyst a client brought in - part of a larger project in the Jeweler's Bench forum...

One end cut off in the job picture the sales person took.

Another repair - light blue synthetic spinel, belonged to an aunt...

Came out of an old 10K ring, gem is ~16 mm

Had to leave some of the flat and other damage or it wouldn't have fit back in the ring!

My mother got a Nikon Coolpix for christmas, and I got to borrow it to take a couple of photos of gems.

OK, this was fun.

I bought a 38.45 ct Aqua out of a piece of 70s jewellery back in the fall and finally got around to cutting it. It was just a hair under 12mm from table to keel. 23.2x17.8x11.97mm

After recutting, it's 17.84cts. and 11.43mm from table to culet. 19.64x15x11.43mm

Better colour, better sparkle, and not much face up loss.

That's a tremendous improvement. Great work, Lisa.

Two Zambian emeralds, 2.86 ct (10.09 ct rough) and 2.49 ct (10.60 ct rough), for a client. Unfortunately the camera picks up the inclusions very visibly. They are less noticeable in the hand.

Duncan,

Nice color and cut. Well done.

Are you going to clarity enhance them?

Steve

No, they are already with the client for whom I cut them and she is happy with them as they are. The streaky inclusions in the rectangular stone are, I think, actinolite not empty tubes.

A tanzanite recutting job for a client. The girdle is deliberately thick to retain weight and keep the finished stone over 5 ct. The original stone was very lop-sided, with a shallow pavilion on the left hand side, so there was considerable weight loss.

Paul, nice job.
Being quartz and looking very clean a ultrasonic and or jewelry steamer is an option. Soaking it and some pressured air as well.
