 Post subject: Fresnel faceting

So here is a weird question. You know how a fresnel lens is FLAT? Suppose you had a very shallow gemstone to cut. Can you do a trick like Fresnel did to cut it so it would look much larger?

While not Fresnel specifically, there are a number of cutters who utilize non-traditional cutting techniques to get better weight return from shallow rough. John Dyer, the Munsteiners, Richard Homer, Michael Dyber, etc. just to name a few that come to mind.

Many of the fantasy designs work like this. Parallel V grooves make the exact same pattern except in a rectangle instead of a circle.

Hello,
did that several times, that way of cutting makes for very interesting Stones, even more optical effects when engraved with grooves or bowls on the Top as well.
