Thanks Barry!
Yep, I have 4 cats. Everything is going predictably thus far.
The pup has nothing at all against the cats. Beetlejuice has already made friends with her and the other 3 just slowly slither into the room, hiss and scamper away.
The pup's name is Jellybean, aka The Bean. She is a newdle, also referred to as a newfypoo. A cross between a standard poodle and a newfoundland.
She's a big girl 11 weeks yesterday and just shy of 30lbs.
I heard on the interweb that it is imperative to "crate train" a puppy. So the fellow at the pet store said to get a crate which will fit her when she is fully grown. The Bean won't go near it. But it is a hit with Beetlejuice:

It's happening already. I'm up at 6am to take the Bean for a walk. We walk and walk and walk.....come back home where she makes a poop in the dining room and a pee in the hallway.

oh noooo!
You have to catch her in the act of about to(quickly race her back outside) or doing and and use a forceful NO and quickly take her outside. Hopefully it's polished floorboards or lino to the door. You'll probably get a wizz trail to clean. Of course over the top good girl congrats to show pleasure when she does something outside. Let's face it, a dog really only wants to please you..cats.. don't have to tell you who has to please who there. The floor. First off soak up as much as possible. minor grumbles from you, not over the top, don't want her needing a session with Phil. Spoon a heap of Bicarb soda into some water to dissolve and pour it on. Leave for a good few minutes then mop up. the bicarb should neutralise the odour. Even a bottle of Soda water does the trick. If it's carpet do the same. It's going to spread outwards through underlay if you have it but the solution will follow what has gone before it. After a good number of minutes, get an old towel and put your weight on it to soak up as much as possible. Then you can sprinkle the soda in powder form over the area. It will vacuum off later. To check you've done it right, even straight after the stomping, on the towel..not Bean... is to literally put your nose above the carpet and sniff all over. If you still smell something, repeat the soaking first. Oh and the towel. Give that a good rinse too and let soak in some water with soda before putting it through your machine .. just to be on the safe side.
She'll learn the routine, they love certain constants.

I remember our dogs: Morning Patrol. ("Emptying the dog.") Our neighbors got their first dog some years ago, a Yellow Lab. When he was a puppy, she would walk him out in the morning. We would sometimes talk. One morning, he finished, observed the product then, with a look of delight, proceeded to devour it. She was horrified. "Remember, it pays to recycle!" Cats do not wish to be observed. It is an affront to their dignity. Pretend they are invisible.

That's a thought. I gave her a pigs ear in the crate one day and it was her favorite place until the ear was gone. She has discovered how cozy a cat bed can be. She's moved in her stuff and decided the catnip ball is now hers.
