Update: Tbe dinner will be Thursday the 7th at 7pm at El Charro's downtown location, located at

311 N Court Ave, Tucson,

Do NOT go to the one on oracle rd. Wrong place.

If you're interested and haven't posted yet please post!

Hello everyone,
I figured it might be a good idea to start arrangements for the GO dinner a bit early this year. I'm willing to make the reservation and get there early to make sure things are set, but once again we need to figure out the best date and the best place.

Datewise, I am guessing that as usual the largest concentration of people are around the first week of February. More importantly Barbra's dates are Feb. 5-9, so those are our starting point.

Locationwise: This is probably the part that will need the most discussion. Logistically Rigos was pretty easy, but we got mixed opinions on it so we can take it off the table for this year. El Charro is traditional (and is the site of the invention of the chimichanga), and two years ago I didn't have any trouble getting a reservation. However, there are two potential downsides: with a group of our size service was pretty poor and the table was crowded and loud (we were put in the basement which we totally filled and acoustics were not good). A couple years earlier we were upstairs for the dinner rather than the basement, but that was a slightly smaller crowd and had basically the same issues of noise and service.

I know a couple of other good restaurants in Tucson, but I don't think either of them is necessarily suited for a larger group: Casa Valencia is delicious but expensive and maybe not as group friendly, and Old Peking is a great chinese place with a more takeout-focused menu as well as an amazing traditional Szechuan menu, but it doesn't have the same ambience and might not have as broad an appeal as Mexican cuisine. But I do encourage anyone who goes to Tucson to try them both.
Basically, that means we need suggestions for alternative venues if we don't go with El Charro.

One other thing I'd like to mention: please don't invite people who aren't connected to the site at all unless it's your family or someone in the industry who you actually know.

So for the tl;dr, if you want to come to the dinner meetup, post your interest, available dates and restaurant preference.

While making a possible reservation at El Charro, perhaps you could mention that you do not want to be in the basement AND request that they provide their most experienced and professional wait staff for the gathering.

If they can not accommodate, we'll think of a plan B.

Hello from San Francisco! I've been faceting for almost three years, and this will be my second time in Tucson. I'll be in town 1/31-2/5, so while I might miss the official Barbra-Meetup dinner, I'm happy to hang out with other early birds.

Cheers,
Michelle

How are wed the 6th or thurs the 7th for people? I'd lean towards the 7th but only at random.
Time is getting a bit short, so I will make the reservation on the 27th, so please give input before then. Thanks!

I'll try El Charro first--it's a bit later than the last time I booked with them but we can probably get a table. It looks like we might have a slightly smaller crowd judging from the more limited response so far so that may work in our favor. I'll give a tentative number of 20 and modify when we get closer to the date.
