Hi Friends,
The mine of Axinite in Nazar Khel, Mohmand Agency, Pakistan is closed now.. this mine produced axinites usually opaque crystals and translucent rough in the beginning.. After a few months when miners went a little deeper some high grade axinites mined which were almost 235-kg, those were brought in the market and sold very quickly.. no body knew who bought them.. After this very first high grade axinites occur in the mine, the mining closed as the govt. of Pakistan launched an offensive against terrorists.. this area was terrorists stronghold.. See the photos of those axinites, which are an old stock and nowadays very rare to find facet rough axinites.

Thanks friends for appreciation..
the same mine in Nazarkhel, produced axinites in different secondary colors blue and green which make them very valuable.. People searching to get any facet rough of green or blue axinite or already cut but I do'nt think if they can find.. they are very very rare.. Sometimes rough pieces of bi-color and tri-color occur, but they are not cuttable.. Please see the photos of such rough:

Salman,

Are you sure these different colored material is axinite also?

I am not sure about that. You could also have come to a different mineral inside the pegmatite.

Whatever the material is, it´s interesting.

I propose you flatten some of the rough specimen on a lap exactly ther where the color is. And then try to read it´s optical properties to see what it is.

Keep the info´s comin´salman ... I am fascinated.

Nikolaus

:) i think axinite (the axinite group/family) can occur in brown, violet, blue (pale or purplish-blue), and greenish yellow, and violet. mindat has nice photos of the axinite group. i wouldn't know if the photos recently posted by salmangems are axinite or not, but, it's a very nice collection.

After having a closer look I am convinced and ashamed. I just didn´t know anything else then brownish mixed colors. The last pic looked like a typical crystal in crystal intergrowth. Should have better looked it up before

Very nice collectio salman! Keep on posting pics!

Look at his second picture of the facet grade material. Upper right section. There are 2 pieces that are unbrown in there. One with green. Cool.

If you check the properties of the pictures, you can find the site. I know I saved it in my rough links.
