I think that the presentation is a little cheesy to say the least....
I am not sure I would trust the product and would be afraid that once out of the liquid, these opals all start crazing.

I think the "opals" are too big for the supporting matrix. My vote is that the "opals" are synthetic however I wouldn't complain if I had those "opals".
disclaimer- I live in Las Vegas which is probably second in per capita synthetic opals

That looks like Mexican Opal, it is in a distinct volcanic rhyolite rock
I would not call that crystal opal, You may beable to cut some matrix opal from it but I think that is all, probley when taken out of the water or oil it will lose color craze and crack
My self I would not give them $20 for that opal
And it as a No Return Accepted on it

Although this one is larger than usual, glass vials filled with opals and water are commonly sold on some resort beaches by local children. While all together in the vial, it can look pretty flashy, once you take them out you will find that the fire is actually very small, thin areas on the rhyolite matrix. Not enough anywhere to cut a stone from, even if you leave the majority matrix. Not even worth $20. Maybe something to set in a windowsill as a conversation piece.
