I thought it would be fun if we all post a picture or a link to one beautiful stone everyday. It can be from your collection, from a website, just anywhere. It can be any stone or speciemen you like. I think it would just be fun to see what everyone likes.

Seeing Double Twice, at Twice the Price.
The first time I saw these two beauties was on AJS Gems for $400.00 a carat (aproximate). Second time was on Cherrypicked.com for $800.00 a carat (aproximate). Both times sold at both prices! Imagine that!

"This rectangular cushion-shaped stone at 478.68 carats came up for auction on November 19th, 2003 at Christies of Geneva, Lot 382, Sale 1312. With report #41140 dated May 15th, 2003 from the SSEF Swiss Gemological Institute stating that the sapphire is of Sri Lankan origin and has no indications of thermal enhancement. Set by Cartier and bought by King Ferdinand of Romania for Queen Marie, who was a grandaughter of both Queen Victoria of Great Britain and Czar Alexander II of Russia. Queen Marie of Romania's sapphire is the largest sapphire ever presented at auction and with its genuine beauty and fascinating history becomes what can indisputably be termed a unique jewel. At the auction, the stone ended up selling for 1,916,000 Swiss francs, equal to $1,494,480"
Isn't this a most tempting eye candy? Too bad that it's already sold and that one doesn't have the funds to buy it.
Must've been quite a sight together with the kokoschnik she bought from Grand Duchess Vladimir of Russia, which was a broad band of diamonds with three star sapphires big as walnuts! Anyone who knows what happened to it btw? I only know that it was sold in the US in the 50's by her youngest daughter, Princess Ileana.

Now why can't I meet a man with the means to give me that kind of bauble?
That's because you aren't born to people a hundred years dead!
Besides, it wouldn't do you any good to get a bent neck of the stupid thing, it's HEAVY! The Swedish princess Maria is said to have complained about the heaviness of the emerald jewellery she inherited from her grandmother, the Empress Maria Alexandrovna. She consequently sold it too. No need to get ugly in your old age just because you're wearing a beautiful bauble, is it?
