This is a wonderful site and it’s great to finally access the vast pool of knowledge here. My passion for gemstones initially led me to AIGS in Bangkok in 2007. Vincent’s trailblazing expeditions rekindled my sense of adventure and insatiable curiosity, and inspired me to visit the various gem markets and mining areas around the world. I am truly grateful and honored to those who have welcomed, encouraged and helped me, including former instructors, to find my way through Nepal, India, Sri Lanka, China, Japan, Brazil, Tanzania, Madagascar, and Burma.
I’ve also taken a liking to gem cutting so the journey has been a transition from the microscope to the dark field loupe, and now to the rough lamp. The wide array of vibrant colors and novel gem material found closer to the source is simply amazing, not to mention the remarkable innovations of the miners. Normally I pack a couple of cameras, and occasionally a video camera, to document the lives of the traders, brokers, miners and their cultures.
Moving forward, I’d like to enjoy this site and catch up on all that I've missed during my time on the road, sort through my thousands of photos, and let’s see where things go from there. In the meantime, thank you for your guidance, and sharing your invaluable knowledge and experiences.

You may be able to see some jade boulders in the background. According to the guide, this is where the jade auctions take place. There is also the "Myanma [sic] Gems Museum & Mart" next door. Some of the prized exhibits are no longer found here. They have been moved to the new capital:
gingerkid, Lisa has photos of our Tanzania trip and she is more than welcome to post the pictures. I've only requested that she, and others, refrain from posting photos of me online, in the interest of field security. As you can see I'm 0/2 with photos here, and I'm not sure why the link didn't work, even after the re-size.
The photos have been consolidated on one HD and I will begin identifying and cropping some shots of gemstones. However, since I'm having trouble posting here, I'll have to consider other alternatives. A friend has offered to post some content onto a site so we'll see if that works out in the weeks ahead.
Unfortunately, I will be on the road again but I'll get back to it in a week. Thank you for your patience and enthusiasm.
