My brother is a woodworker and he wants to know where to get powder to put in resins to fill cracks for some of his projects. A lot of woodworkers do this I guess and it provides a cool swath of color in the finished piece of wood. Any idea where he can get powder of turquoise or other material, as well as tiny rough gems, 1mm or so in size?

Gearloose has a hammer you might be able to borrow. :)

Tiny rough gems ... I'd go eBay and look at this sort of thing...

It seems to be a standard way for miners/buyers to get rid of stuff that's too small to bother cutting.

Jim, there's some guy over there that makes the kitchen benches etc out of some sort of cement and you can add stuff like gems etc to the surface.(You can also buy his products to do it yourself) He sells packets of the small stuff, turquoise etc. Don't see why he wouldn't sell just the gems. I'm sure you can buy it online.

I suggest that your brother finds some good pipeclay suppliers, as in pottery suppliers, and dry the clay out and pestle it into a powder.
You can get a range of colours and derivative earth compositions.

The other thing is Ocher (ochre), this could be of interest:

Or hire the neighbourhood kids to pound old bricks for you.
