Huge beautiful Burma sapphire! From National Gemstone.

Image

38.71 Round Unheated Burma Sapphire

The 38.71 round unheated Burma sapphire was shot in natural daylight with a Sony Digital Mavica-FD90.

Please note when viewing high quality gemstones on the net there are certain limitations:

1. Most monitors display images at varying dots per inch (dpi) and are not color-corrected.
2. GIF and JPEG formats compromise quality.
3. Netscape and Internet Explorer browsers can only "see" 216 of 256 colors.

Since every system, browser, and monitor is different, we don't know if what you and we see are the same.

Here is the relevant data on the 38.71 round unheated Burma sapphire:

Size: 38.715
ID: Natural Burma Sapphire
Cert: AGL-July 02, 2002
Shape: Round
MM: 17.80 x 17.08 x 14.62

NGC Comment: One of the largest and most important gem quality unheated Burma blue sapphires to enter the market in years. Only two larger Burma sapphires this quality have sold at auction in the last 7 years. This is a gem blue Burma sapphire with a vivid blue color and perfect 75 tone. The gemstone looks phenomenal in all lights. Extremely high 70-80% brilliancy. Highly desirable round shape. A fantastic collection gemstone or to mount in jewelry for a special person. World class.

Ask: Price available to serious inquiries only. Will accept partial trades for GIA graded diamonds and/or AGL colored gemstones. Final price includes shipping and handling in the United States and the original AGL Colored Stone Grading Report.

Earlier this month, we produced a remarkable green sphene cushion. The stone weighed 14.46 carats, and was nearly loupe-clean. An amazing gem.

Scott, that is just amazing! Didn't expect to see such a bit of news on this thread today...

-------------

Just wanted to post a comparison on this thread: could these two stones be brothers? (Big Brother and Small, but still.... ). The color is what I am after and clearly, these guys are in strikingly different leagues:

Little brother gem at www.TheGemTrader.com

and

BIG Brother.

Is this a type of Cats eye (i.e. more with similar colors are out there somewhere) or just two charming oddities never to be seen again?

intense lotus flower Hawaiian sunset as if set on fire by it

one of the most happy electric colored padparadscha's you will ever have the pleasure of seeing.

This gem has that cheerful quality that sets it apart from most other gems of it's type. Bright and somehow illuminated from within, I derived much pleasure by placing this rarity 15 feet away from me on a desktop in a dimly lit daylight filled room and even from that distance it spoke to me. this highly desirable gem comes in a most wearable size from the most coveted source for these types of gems, Sri Lanka.

Could this Ruby be the next price record breaker? "Estimate Upon Request." A shame the picture is not better. From Sotheby's.

LOT 1588

ANOTHER PROPERTY
SUPERB RUBY AND DIAMOND RING

Estimate Upon Request

DESCRIPTION

Set in the centre with an oval ruby weighing 8.64 carats, flanked by two oval diamonds together weighing approximately 2.80 carats, mounted in platinum.

CATALOGUE NOTE

Ring size: 5 ¾

Accompanied by Gübelin report numbered 0608666, dated 22 August 2006, stating that the 8.64 carat ruby is natural, of Burmese (Myanmar) origin, with no indications of heating. Rubies which have not been heated are scarce. This colour variety of ruby may also be called "pigeon's blood red" in the trade. Special appendix: the natural ruby possesses a richly saturated and homogeneous colour, combined with a high degree of transparency, and spared of thermal treatment. Such a combination of characteristics is rare in natural Burmese rubies of this size. Also accompanied by AGL report numbered CS 37952-1, and special remark classifying this stone as Exceptional.
