Sheesh..damned if I do and damned if I don't. What's wrong with Smirnoff..apart that it is now owned by a British company but originally from Moscow? At least I didn't say 'it'.

Smirnoff was never from Russia (or the USSR as it was at the time). It's a cheap white spirit distilled (AIR) in Warrington Lancs - or was when it was first manufactured in the 1950's. Importation of Soviet vodka from the state monopoly company (whose name I have forgotten) began in the 1960's.
There's nothing wrong with Smirnoff. It's an excellent rat poison and drain cleaner. It is still on sale in some supermarkets and pubs which are owned by Smirnoff's makers and tied to 'own brand' sales. Whether anyone actually drinks it, I couldn't say....

Ooo ginge, it's only the pic out of focus, can definitely see the colours. Very nice
Kerensky, you're just trying to bait me. Pyotr Arsenievich Smirnov would be turning in his grave. guess you shouldn't believe everything you read. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smirnoff
thanks, anita and moohaus, for the compliments on the ccg.

lol, yes, it is. it was freezing outside when i placed the garnet on a small patio table, squatted down (balancing on my tip toes trying not to fall over) and this krazy kitteh decided he wanted to sharpen his claws on the back of my down jacket, and then, hang from the hood on the jacket.
when the cat decided to adopt us, we called him "garnet," lol, which he did not respond to, so, we renamed him "killer," which he responds to and suits him perfect.
and...still have a lot to read about taking gem photos. just read kerensky's notes about taking gem photos with the tripod, etc...

yes, ma'am, moohaus!!
here's a 24ct pear cut red spessartite that i purchased from ubergod jason!! while harriet has "the blob," this is my "spesszilla." it really pops red flash in certain lighting conditions!! lisa recut 'zilla's sis, which was a pear cut, too, and indeed beautiful after the makeover.
this was taken outside while it was overcast, hope it's not too blurry.
this is jason's photograph of the stone, and i hope jason doesn't mind that i post his image , but, his photo is far superior to mine.
