I used to, besides cutting, grade diamonds for a living. Of course one needs a good sense of color to do this but the procedure of comparing a couple stones at the time in the real world is not depending on your monitor but rather the light and your eyes. There you are dealing with facts. Besides that, we usually get the opinion of another experienced grader in the case of doubt or if dealing with exceptional stones, more than one.

I think I'll try. :D

Lots of fun! :D

wow. thought I did better than I had. Scored 15 on an old PC LCD monitor with halogen lighting overhead and an incandescent desk lamp beside me. Might have skewed things I think. Oh, and I'm a mid-40s male. That will definitely skew things :)

I seem to be weakest in the green/cyan range.

I'll have to try it on my iMac without any desk lighting and see if that makes a difference.

Hi everybody ,

I did 19 ...
I know that my perception of colours is quite wrong sometimes, but I feel all right with that ;)
I think that each one perceives colors with its subjectivity and his sensual experience ...

Thanks for having shared this address with us , Barbra : it was interesting

* However , I presume that a physical color test would be more valid than a virtual test : natural light seems to me more standart ; we enjoy gems in the real life , no ?
For choosing a gemstone , it seems to me better to do it in a real context

I know 4 is a good score, and I'm probably being an overachiever, but my score bothered me. I stare at color all day long making websites, and I notice the most minute color differences when working in Photoshop, so I KNEW I could do better... I was a little tired the day I took it, etc etc.

Anyway, I retook it just now, and scored a 0.

Whoa. Just re-did the test using my iMac (newer 27", about a year old) and got ZERO!

I didn't take any more time than the first attempt on my PC (old Acer 17" LCD monitor, maybe 3 years old). But I made sure the desk lamp was turned off this time.

Surprising. Is it because of my monitor and lighting, or is it because I did it once before? Hmmm.

It does make me feel better about my colour abilities though :D

I can only guess that bloke who scored 1520 must have just hit "ENTER" without moving any of the squares. :|

I scored a 7--but then I didn't get too fiddly with the colors after a quick initial sort (did them on a monitor I couldn't vouch for)

I scored 0. I wonder if different monitors really make that much difference? After all we are talking about differences in tone no matter the color.
