It happened here but I went back through my posts and could not find it. Oh well, it is nice to know that I have been doing it right after all. Thanks for posting this tutorial.

No prob, Allen.....and I could be possibly misunderstanding what you mean. I bob my head all about whenever I'm getting an RI whether a spot or on a flat facet.
If a Gemstone is cut at the wrong angles for the type of material or if the gemstone is cut below the critical angle, will this affect the Refractometer reading?

Can the size of the stone affect the reliability of a reading?
I would have to assume yes, because I tried to use the sapphire my Gem-A course sent me and gave up, as the tiny drop of RI fluid i used still interfered, I think.
So I used one of my larger ones and got a perfect reading.
Seriously, this thing is tiny, Im guessing 0.1 ct to a max of 0.2
Makes the spectroscope annoying to say the least, and I have the use these to fill out my work book.
Any tips perhaps on getting readings for very small stones, for Refracto and the Spectro? Sorry to bring of the spectrometer btw.

lol I agree that chelsea filter isn't of much use, but it still has a few applications: sorting a batch quickly (gain of time for later identification process), or detecting some dyes (despite it does not detect all kind of dyes)

Small stones can indeed be a challenge with a refractometer. It is not impossible to get a reading, but it is difficult
Indeed!
I think this is my problem at the moment. At what size does a stone begin becoming difficult to determine he RI?
Thanks for your You Tube video on the refractometer, it has been helpful but I am still a ing problems and I did wonder whether the size of the stone was affecting my result. When I did place a large stone on the refractometer the result was very clear.
