Re: AGL Identifies Irradiated Colombian Emeralds
Thank you for this link. I had not seen the full entry from Ron's website.
I am pleased to say that since the release, I have not had any other irradiated Colombian emeralds come into the lab. I am still in the process of trying to get some Colombian emeralds irradiated by those who were doing the treatment, so I will keep the GemologyOnline forum up to date as I get further news. And as I have mentioned to other labs, if samples do come through, I will share them for our collective interest and information.
Best regards to all,
Chris

Re: AGL Identifies Irradiated Colombian Emeralds
Thanks for the info sir.
some 6-7 years ago i tried irradiation on different colors of beryl family stones . it was cobalt 60 irradiation and none of the stone showed any change, either in its appearance or in its internal inclusions.
but i never dared to try emerald,as its a costly stone.
i wonder if its the emerald's natural color which is enhanced by irradiation? or its something pushed into the emerald mixed with filler material which turns green when irradiated, which ultimately gives a more greener look to the emerald?
Regards.
Deepak
