Hey Folks,
Need some help here. I have now discovered that Stuller isn't the best place to buy loose diamonds. Does anyone have recommendations for better sources for wholesale/trade buyers to get good prices? Thanks.

Hmm ... crickets . Okay, perhaps I'm not being fair to Stuller. It might be their diamond prices are great and the company selling this loose diamond so cheaply is making up their profit on the ring mounting. I'll have to find out what the young lady I'm helping is paying for the mount, then determine.
I'd still be happy to have more outlets for diamonds, though, should anyone here know of any .

I don't think so, Barbra. It's a loose diamond, GIA report, .83ct/H-I/SI1/Ideal. I've told the young lady to double-check the report with GIA and to examine the stone before and after it's set. I think she's probably getting a good deal. I'm hoping to be able to see it sometime at church .

as BV said, GIA does not do Split Color Grade and also there is no Ideal grade in GIA's System for Cut Grade, it sounds more like EGL/IGI Report, and as you know when you look at EGL/IGI report Color/Clarity Grade is usually one grade higher than what it should be, also some EGL labs do not do full disclosure about the HPHT or Filling Treatments in Diamonds, last year a client brought us Round Brilliant Cut 1.71 D VVS1 EX/EX/EX with EGL Report, i was suspicious why they got EGL for such premium stone, then we unmounted it and in the girdle the "HPHT processed" was inscribed and in Comments of the report there was no mentioning about the inscription!!!!! we've informed the client and he sent the stone to GIA and the result was E IF EX/EX/EX With disclosure which this diamond has been HPHT Processed to change its color!!!!! as you see the color grade was one level high in EGL and surprisingly the clarity was VVS1 but in GIA Report it was IF! (probably they included the inscription as a clarity characteristic) then the client sent the stone to IGI and got this grade: D IF EX/VG/EX but with disclosure of HPHT processed!!! but again color grade was higher than GIA, and also polish grade got VG! one stone, three reports all different result and one of them without any disclosure of HPHT treatment, i have kept their report copy in case you want to see i can post them
my point is always go for GIA Report because its the most reliable report for diamond but still there are some expert stuff about diamond trading which is not included even in GIA report, (like greenish, brownish, milky shades and...)
i've pmed you about diamond wholesaler's i know and you can use me for the referral. you dont want your young lady customer found out the stone she bought got laser drilled hole or filling or the color/clarity grade is higher than what it should be right?

Okay ... mystery solved .
The young lady did some double-checking with the store. Turns out the diamond doesn't have a GIA report. The report is by the owner (a GG) of the store. It's not an SI1, but an I1 . So, she was looking at a .83ct/I/I1/"Ideal".
She's asked me to see if I can get her a better diamond (shouldn't be too hard ).
Thanks to all who sent me information. I truly appreciate it!
