Discovered a new beryl/pegmatite deposit 3 weeks ago(different from the other green beryl place near levelland/due west in the Miners corner thread I posted) at Diamond Hill. You can now find beryl within baseball pitching distance of massive amethyst and smoky quartz crystals. I didn't have my camera when we made the discovery whichs gripes my butt due to the fact some of the region's best diggers and mine owners were all there and a new find with everyone present would have been a photograph for the ages. I did get some photos of the pegmatite with someone else's camera but he has not yet sent me the pics. I took these pics 2 Sunday's ago at the split from the big machine dig. Everyone who was part of the dig went home with a crystal or two. A very cool one was an aquamarine beryl on a dodecahedron alamandine garnet crystal. I got one pic of it with water still on it(bubbles). Thumbnail sized but very unique and cool being on a garnet. These are from only the beginning of the pegmatite and maybe 3 hours hand digging. We had to get back to using the machine to find amethyst veins and the beryl has to wait until next time

.
It's just amazing that you can find so many varieties of quartz and odd minerals here, then to also have a pegmatite within throwing distance of great quartz veins it's astounding

Oh boy! There just has to be some gem quality stuff hiding in there somewhere. You are compelling me to go and prospect at some pegmatites over in eastern Washington.
