spectroscope is used for diamond rough to determine the stress and strain so cutter will be careful in cutting procedure, thats all! determining the color by spectroscope is impossible. i guess you can find out the usage of spectroscope in The Gemology Project

well from most of the manufacturer i know they can judge the color of the rough by opening a window, sometime if the rough is glassy they can determine without window.
I have no idea if this thing really works as described. I'll leave that to the diamond experts here. I have a difficult enough time determining top colors in cut diamonds!

although colorimeter is for rough i wonder if it works with polished too, specially that it can detect type IIB / IIA diamonds & coated ones! also fancy yellow even brown tint in the D-F color range! as it claim!!!
