new here, question about oiling emeralds. I have a pair of 40 ct emerald earring(20 each) and am trying to find a jewelry store that does this in house, using vacuum chamber, etc. They are fairly included, one with couple carbon spots, but still beautiful. how much of a difference should i see one they are professionally oiled? I soaked them in cedar oil for a day and didn't notice any difference but oi think sucking the air out in the vacuum chamber then filling wil help.

hi and welcome to the forum.
well, results for such kind of treatments may vary a lot. Mainly it depends on the number/size of the reaching surface fissures that would be filled, Of course, as you pointed out, a vacuum condition must be performed in order to let the filler penetrate, soaking stones only is quite not effective.

How long have you had the earrings? Perhaps they are already treated and this is as good as they're going to get. Impossible to tell without seeing them.
The only jewelry store I am aware of with in house tools for fracture filling is Glen Lehrer in Larkspur, California.
