Hi everyone,

I have been looking at this glass filled Ruby for a few days and there is an inclusion inside them that is not familiar to me. I am hoping someone could shed some light on it for me. I have 3 pieces, all showing the same thing.

First I thought flux synthetic Ruby. The inclusions look like the ones in my book. They also seem to look like "breadcrumb" inclusions. They are white and opaque.
Then I found an article on Madagascar Rubies showing these breadcrumb like inclusions in natural Rubies.

Hopefully someone can set me straight. Pics taken with my phone, sorry about the quality.

Do the inclusions manifest along the glass/ruby interface, within the glass fill, or in the ruby?

my idea of breadcrumb inclusions in madagascar corundum is that they are more compact and 3 dimensional.

the pics remind me of dried-out oil residue in emerald fractures.

i went to this:

expecting to see pics similar to yours but didn't find any--puzzling.

Looks like trapped air bubbles in the glass filler in the fissures.

Treasure Gems- I stumbled on this forum today, read your thread, and signed up for an account. Your pictures caught my eye. I work with synthetically grown sapphire and have seen something that seems similar to me. Pending some further observations, i might be able to shed some light. Under magnification, do they appear to have any type of fractal pattern (tree shaped or something similar)? Do they appear to be sheets or clouds? Are they solid or made up of tiny little defects in a group?

Have you established whether these are inclusions or voids? Can you tell if they within your glass or within the ruby?
