@Minx; I'll definitely update this thread when I get something back. And I really shouldn't be checking for stones (but I am  )

Demantoids from Iran can have horsetails, just precise someone's earlier post. I bought a small parcel a few years back. All of the ones containing horsetails are a brownish green though. There are a few intense "Colombian Emerald" greens in there as well, but none of those had horsetail inclusions and none of them were clean like the Russian ones pictured here.

Any possibility the AGL report is wrong?

I don't think so.'
The separation between tsavorite and demantoid is straightforward.
RI tsavorite 1.740 +-
Demantoid: 1.875 OTL

Hello All,

This thread was forwarded to me and I feel it is important to clarify this situation. In short, our first result was a mistake. As much as you try to make certain that inadvertent mistakes don't leave the laboratory, they still may happen.

This stone came back to the lab for an origin determination some time ago and it was then that I discovered a wrong result had been issued. All of the data clearly identified the piece as a Tsavorite however for some unknown reason the result went out as Demantoid. This was my error and I had to contact the client. I had to explain that when accessing the pull-down menu for the identification of this item, my hand inadvertently clicked demantoid. As hard as we try for these things not to happen, I am human and mistakes may happen. No excuses.

This just further drives home the point that we must be overly careful in our due diligence, not only when testing stones, but also when it comes to selecting the proper fields in our database/report processing software. It also brings forth the point that if at anytime someone questions the result of a lab report, they should feel free to contact that lab and ask them to recheck their data and findings. I always offer this to our clients, regardless of the service they had us do and I do it at no extra charge.

I regret having wasted all of your time, thought and energy on this and of course I took full responsibility with our client.

Best regards to all,
Christopher P. Smith

Chris, thanks for the update. We all make mistakes, and it sounds like you handled this in a very straightforward, professional manner. If I had anything of enough value to send for analysis, AGL would be my first choice, regardless of this one-off mistake. :)

I agree with Arya. AGL is always my first choice for colored gems and will remain so in the future.
