Those involved in setting up a Franklin Faceter's Frolic for Franklin NC end of July - early August 2012 are looking for input regarding the upcoming Frolic.

There has been a lot of discussion about past sites. While it is agreed that the "Fun Factory" is not the ideal location, financial constraints and limited facilities have put quite a crimp on finding a suitable environment. So if anyone has any specifics about other options, please speak up while there is still time to act.

We are also looking for input from dealers who wish to set up there, as well as participants. Suggested speakers are also being solicited (hint, hint Jon!).

Please comment here or over on the USFG board so that we can keep this opportunity alive.

Thanks,
Sue

Robert Strickland, who developed GemCad, will be offering a Beginner Class for

down load a free trial of GemCad, 30 days before the class. If you do not
purchase before you get there, you may purchase during the Frolic from Robert.
Once you learn how to use, we believe you will realize the real value in this
software tool for any level if faceting you do. http://www.gemcad.com

1:00 – 4 PM Advanced GemCad Class:
After lunch, Robert Strickland will teach a GemCad Class where you will learn
how to use the Advanced power of GemCad in designing more complex stone. Signup
priority will be given to those students who have experience through the Basic

1:30, 3:30, and the Grand Prize drawing at 4:30 with winning numbers announced
and awarded in the Banquet Room. You have to be present for this drawing and
match your ticket number to the winning number, so hang on to those tickets. The

we will mail it to you, since you will have provided us with your name, address
and phone number on the Grand Prize Drawing Ticket. FFF6 will end at 5:00 PM.

on the heat treatment of gemstones. "Heat treatment of gems dates back to
ancient times, but many there is little practical information for faceters on

technical understanding of heat treatment but also at techniques and processes
for heating your own tourmaline, tanzanite, zircon and aquamarine.

Competition Cutting
In the "Depot Room" – Dr. Howard Bromley from Memphis and Editor for USFG
Newsletter will speak to you about his experience competing in both the USFG

I am really looking forward to this. I've got a few more things I want to try in the oven between now and then. That means chaining Tom to the photo bench, but he's a very good sport about it.

You really should go. But if you cannot make it (and I need to see a lengthy explanation with witnesses of why not before you are excused), I will be doing video of the Saturday parts.

Hey Al,

I only created DVDs of FFF3. I may be able to compile 4, but not sure of my time. And... if I make more copies of 3, they are going to be artless on the covers I think in the current time frame.

I do have your dvd's for FFF3. More would certainly be welcome, but I'm grateful for what you've already done.

Lap Journal is out of print and out of stock for the May 2011 issue with my heat treatment article.

I've posted a .PDF on my website - on the right hand side under "In the News."

Enjoy!
