I'm sure you have discussed about this a lot and it would be interesting to hear about process leading to permanent exception instead of transition time.

thank you Mikko,
i guess if we will be able to "make it run properly" this bill could be a good starting point for other countries....hopefully..

this point was one of the latest amendments added just before the Camber of Deputies approval. It was necessary to create a new "starting point" essentially to avoid troubles to folks with big old stocks. It's not a perfect way but there was an agreement it's the most feasible. Transition time would have been a far more difficult thing to manage.....

UPDATE

Very likely the law will be finally approved BEFORE March 2013, we will have national election at that time. once approved there will be 6 months of time for the Minstry of the industry to relaease the book of rules so, we're workin hard with all the industry associations for the final rush. We’re actually struggling around diamond color grading issue (OMG), there’s still an agreement among pros that it should be done by using diamond master set so, after the bill will be approved, every lab or single gemologist that would release a diamond report must have a real diamond master set of 7 or 9 stones (still no agreement about the number). The issue is now where the pros can purchase them. On Behalf of my association I contacted some companies that in the past provided for this “service” with no luck. Have to say I wasn’t able to find any company that actually can arrange for such GIA diamond master set nowadays so I’m here to ask for advices. I know it’s not a big deal, and likely some companies that was involved in this decided to give up cos requests were too few to balance the troubles connected to the task. Of course I cannot promise anything, but, well, even if we’re relatively few, IF the book of rules will be released accordingly the last agreement, every single Italian gemologist should have one in order to grade diamonds……..
Any idea from industry pros around here??? Thank you all in advance!!!

ciao

Alberto, do you have some new info about the law? Was it finally approved?
How it goes with the work of all additional norms etc.?
It could be very interesting for all other EU gemMologists... :D

Hola Egor,

we were very close to the final approve........ ...............one year ago.
it was stopped by a group of "pro" ( :smt013 :smt012 :smt011 ) who pushed on politicians in order to have it modified..........actually timeframe was really small already even without this stop, then the election campain sarted and.........well, since then it seems no one care anymore..........it's still bogged here and NOBODY can say if and when it will eventually brought to the final vote............... i will keep you informed if something will move..........

ciao
