ok
i've only been using Helicon after trying Zerene and not liking it. i've tried PS and i didn't like the results either. for the reason that Oscar already stated in
this thread
my stacks stay under 35 - so far.
what i can ADD to this conversation is this
i'm friendly with a archival/museum photo printer here in LA and he told me to always work with PSDs. when i got the same opinion from another printer, i decided to stick to this workflow:
RAW>Lightroom>PSD>Helicon>PSD>LR/PS>PSD

when i did this, my stacks out of Helicon looked way better than:
1)converting the RAWs to PSDs using PS (then Helicon)
2)no conversion, RAWs Helicon

if you want to do an experiment, try that.
1) try stacking RAWs.
2) then stack the same RAWs converted to PSDs by PS.
3) then the same RAWs converted to PSDs by LR.
