That time would depend on the crystallographic orientation of the table, the type of diamond, if naats are present, the number, size, location and orientations, shape and location of naturals, size and location of inclusions, if any, and how close the finished weight would be to 1.00 ct.

Is that 30 hours possible on your average mast type machine we all cut colored stones with?

The general mast machine for cutting of colored stones does not have means of getting high speed. Higher speed give more heat but also polishes (cuts) faster. It is possible to cut diamonds on an ordinary faceting machine. It is however more tedious and more difficult as it is much more hazzle to find the right grain unless you get a holder for the dops that can be rotated around the axis perpendicular to the lap. I have cut diamonds on a Facetron many years ago but to be productive I had to get me proper equipment. If you want to cut diamonds on a faceting machine I recommend that you at least get a cast iron lap of good quality and properly balanced. I do not know of any source for one of them but maybe Gearloose can custom make one for you.

This is just my experience, I have no scientifics to back it up... :)

We have had this discussion on the colored stone thread. Faceting machines were designed for colored stones. If you want to cut diamonds, acquire diamond cutting equipment. Those are two different technologies.
