I hope you mean interesting and potentially bioavailable lithium minerals, or else lepidolite, elbaite and spodumene are going to want to sit down for a long chat.

Scarodactyl, indeed that is all a matter of bioavailability.
Thank you Danielle, I spent a lot of time on this writing, and I'm glad I'm not the only one interested in such topic.
Just keep in mind that my article was mostly addressed to collectors, and thus doesn't investigate chronic toxicity issues into much detail as this isn't a concern for collectors, however it is for gemcutters.

I believe you Cascaillou I'm very interested and even fascinated by these issues chemistries, despite my gaps in this field ... Learning is not by far the the most difficult thing to be done !

A company is processing lithium carbonate in metric ton quantities from geothermal water locally near the Salton Sea of southern California. I was at a presentation of the company and I gathered than Mercedes had contracted for current output for batteries. They expect to hire 300 chemists for a new plant to be built if this prototype process works out. They indicated that they will be the #1 source of lithium carbonate.

The speaker said that they use ion exchange columns to extract the lithium carbonate. We asked more questions on the process and then he got a little 'hazy' on their process I will ask about the crystals next time.

One of the health crazies came to a show a few years back an told a friend of mine she had been told she needed to eat an orange rock to improve her health. She had picked up a piece of orpiment he had on the table and asked if that would be a good one. he carefully told her NO, and to wash her hands.
Really happened. (For those who don't remember, this is Arsenic Sulfide.)

Indeed, under the paragraph of my article dealing with risk assessment, I had mentioned the risk to young children who often put things in their mouth...but I guess irresponsible behaviours from some 'metaphysical' believers could also be considered along with standard baby-proofing concerns
