Late last year my dad went on a business trip to Ireland. Since he's the one who really got me into gems and minerals, it's not surprising that he spent some of his down time looking for rocks. Since he was limited it time and mobility he just went down to the closest beach and looked through what was there. What he found were some slightly translucent grey-brown agates, with a bit of a translucent whiskey color when held up to a strong light. They didn't look like too much, but he had our friend cut a couple of pieces from it. The results were kind of surprising: inside these unassuming stones were odd, whispy patterns which looked rather ghostly.
My dad call this one the "Madonna and Child."
And this is the ghost bear which is staying in my personal collection. Sorry about the picture quality. I am pretty terrible at taking good photos of cabs, especially with such a glossy polish.
We've got more, and we're having them cut whenever our friend can get to it. I really hope there are pictures like these in the others.
