a buddy of mine came by with his Taaffeite from Ratnapura, Sri Lanka and let me shoot it. he didn't want to leave it (understandable), so it's kind of a quick-and-dirty shot. luckily, the previous owner had a window polished into it for testing. most likely apatite in there. here's the link to a page where you can see them side by side http://instagram.com/p/qkGzLhxaiu/?modal=true

Hi energyos. Thank you! That photo was taken with a canon 5d ii on a Wild Heerbrugg m450 on a Macrorail using xenon pinpoint fiber optic lighting. If you are planning a trip to Tucson next February, I'll be giving a talk at the AGA conference about photomicrography tips.
