I am suspicious of dye in this sample immediately.

Rhodonite is very tough material. You should have no problem slicing that rough into 1 cm slabs provided that there are no existing fractures.

G_Madison: why? This is well within rhodonite's color range, and it's far from the most expensive hue. If they were to dye it (and it does happen) it would be the rich valuable pink color of top end rhodonite.

This material, with the yellow and black in addition to the pink, can but lovely picture stones. Unfortunately I don't have a bigger picture of this one on me, but it is a good example.

1cm slabs are a bit too thick for most cabbing, though. ~6mm would probably be better.

It has the character of some of the commercial grade Australian rhodolite......where the color is a little dull.

What are you intending to do with these slabs?

Slabs of Rhodolite are available rather inexpensively.......perhaps it would be wiser to sell the entire speciment to a cutter or collector.

Scarodactyl:
I agree 1 cm slabs would be unnecessarily thick for cabbing slabs, but I assumed that the poster had a commercial use intended for the material, such as bathroom tiles, which I have seen. The patterns can be very attractive in even the lesser grades and I suspect that once the poster cuts into the rock the pink color will deepen.

BTW I picked up some facet grade rhodonite from a Russian dealer a few years ago at the Tucson show, but failed to get the origin location. Has anyone seen or heard about this material or its origin?

They offered a large amount of facetted rhodonite from brazil - similar looking to pyroxmangite from brazil I am sure you have seen before . It was a large booth - they offered hundreds of stones - 30-100 EUR pct - beautiful color but low quality cutting.

Was 2012 in Munichshow - many brazilian vendor ( very expensive paraiba too - 10000 euro pct for small stones). I did not see any rhodonite this year (2014).

Marlow the material you are describing is not remotely similar to the material posted by musse4936.

Basically Rhodonite comes in three grades: The old pink and black cabbing material that was very popular when I first started cabbing in the 60's; the Imperial Rhodonite which was rich pink to red almost translucent from Australia; and the red translucent to transparent material that could be faceted. The last material I saw only one year in Tucson, but I remember buying it from Russian dealer.

My stone is 9 kilo, 24 cm long whide 18 cm tall 13 cm... the stone has a lacker on the surface.

to make it more bright in the color....l will sell it as it is, the flaps is a bad idea...

l dont like the lacker, can l take if of and polish the stone so it will shine in the same way.

l got it years back for 22 dollars and now the Rhodonite here in manila becomes very popular.

So l will try sell it for 15.000 pesos same as 333 dollars...
