Hello everybody!

I am not very new here on the forum, just for 99.99%. I had my registration about 6 years or so ago, but lost all info and do not remember even what email I have used for that registration, so I pass new one.. And I did not introduce myself that time also.... I registered account only for reading as I had nothing to say! :)

I am originally Russian living in Montreal since 2003 with 1.5 years break to research life in Israel.. Long enough so I am a bit shy for my still far from perfect English....

By education I am radiochemist, have scientific background in the specific field of nuclear fuel/waste treatment technology, research and creating... But it is in past, I quit my carrier in science (I was thinking so) when left my home-country.

In Israel I met one man, Ukrainian, who was wonderful jeweler. He offered me, and I started to work selling his creations. But because all his stuff was with gemstones, and because I wanted to know what I am selling (and because of my background - I do like to know what I do...) I started to learn gemology on my own... Later when back to Canada I bought some courses (materials for study) in mineralogy, physic (optic) crystallography and gemology and studied all of that. Something was easy as I am chemist with quite good basic education, some was more difficult, but the learning process itself always was very enjoyable for me..

Collection of gemological books, web-sources as this one and "project", G&G, Swiss labs journals, publications in German language, very knowledge shareable business partners and suppliers - all of this made from me a good gemologist! Now I am sure I reached level of 5, maybe even 6% of level such specialists as Conny Forsberg and Barbra Voltaire and others who for so many years keep sharing knowledge with all of us! An be aware - Conny and Barbra - I will reach your level for sure - only I am not sure it will happens within this life or next one.. :)

I do not have any diploma in gemology as I don't need. I am not going to open and start any certification business. I have small business - a few small gemstones stores in Russia, Poland, Ukraine, Bulgaria/Greece and some people who traveling from one local mineral show to another, which are selling only gemstones supplied by me. And all what I learned is mostly I need to make sure I do not sell any fakes. I do have my own set of gemological tools and use it as often as I can to fulfill my demands to myself.

And I still keep learning, learning and learning... Actually my businesses I need to make money for my life and stay on the same position - learning, learning and learning...

I have my own points of view on some gemological questions and problems, I set up my own roles and limitations for what i recognize and precious gemstone, and what will be forever for me just imitations and/or fake. My own roles and limitations might be even more strict and tight then has been set up by official gemmology... But still if it prevents me from screwing out of my possible clients i will keep this way.

Some things are closely related with my small business are turned to be my favorite hobbies. There is picturing of gemstones, especially rare, and micro-photography... I don't think I ever will be able to do same level work as Danny Sanchez as luck of talent and luck of equipment, but still it is so interesting! And sometime I find in gems with very nice, sometime with very unusual inclusions similar to that I never saw myself and could not find any information in all sources available to me... If community will be interested interested I will share with all my pleasure some results of my work, some my opinions which should not be taken any way as opinion of expert, just as opinion of young gemologist /not to young man, who always tries to understand what he sees...

Well.. Very "many words writing"... :) The sense is - I would like to join such a nice community of professionals and amateurs.

Hello everybody!

Best Regards!
Mark
