Hi guys, I bought these orange sapphires, mounted in a nice pendant. I examined the stones under magnification. I suppose the stones have been heated, I don't know whether or not they have been Be-diffused. Here the stones in the pendant (back light):
Now an inclusion in the small stone, I guess a 2-phase inclusion next a fingerprint veil (x100):
the same inclusion, in detail
The greater stone has these inclusions
A detail of the discoid inclusions
I don't understand clearly these last images... might they be a fingerprint veil sourrunded by discoid fractures with tension halo? What do you think? Thank you so much!!!
Is that crystal inclusion with a liquid? On picture looks like it has a natural facet, but I am not sure if i see correctly. Why do you make your pictures so small (not magnification, but size of image)??

Interesting, but do not see clear.. That 2pfase inclusion looks like... I don't know what is it.. negative? Crystal with something else inside? Viewing under your microscope you can see more clearly then picture shows.. Try to describe.
Do you use digital "smalloscope" or standard optical microscope? Picture looks like taken with digital device..

You saw good, GSK. The 2-phase inclusion seems to me a negative crytal with a gas bubble inside... What do you think about the features in other pics? Might they be discoid fractures? Thank you for your kind replies
I use a standar optical microscope, that I bought when I studied biology (I am a doctor). I have just bought a stereomicroscope, more suitable for gemology. Thanks! Ciao Luca
Ciao, doc! Who else will share with us our hobby some time turning to be a main thing in life, gemology..
That was also my guess - microscope with standard bio-objectives. Does give some "unusual" view... Good you will start to use gemological device, then also different options as dark field, diffusing and polarizing of light will help you very much!
I do not see discoid fracture at the moment on current picture. As for negative - then it is multiphase inclusion, if it has liquid and such "fresh" gas-bubble, it tells that stone has not be subject of heating.. But to make sure this my guess is correct you have to observe this "negative guy" under different conditions, to make sure that we recognized its nature correctly.
