and...we have a winner! Well done marcm, the answer to my riddle is indeed quartz
and let's give to Caesar what belongs to Caesar, Stephen Challener had it too.
-------------------------------------------------------- Riddle of the keeper stone:
I am many, dragging the past along in our fall, I am one, keeping future into a cycle.
Who am I? --------------------------------------------------------
The main theme of the riddle was time (as past and future), and there were two clues which would allow you to guess the related mineral:
Let's start with the easy clue: what keeps future into a cycle?
->there's a very simple thing from your everyday life which literally does that and only that...it's called a clock! (you bunch of turnips)
Once you had resolved the clue about the clock, you should already have a strong feeling about quartz, but the other part of the riddle was here to confirm it if you still had any doubts:
what drags the past along in its fall?
->this one was a bit less obvious, but with time in mind, you could guess: sand in a hourglass
So the 'keeper stone' is quartz, which in both cases is the "keeper of time".
As many grains inside the hourglass, and as one crystal in a quartz clock (thanks to its piezoelectric properties), hence the 'many' versus 'one' trick.

OMG....I would have never been poetic enough to get that.
But, I just had an idea......hourglasses with gem sand. Finally a use for all those horrid red opaque rubies....grind them into a sand for an hourglass.

I propose that we launch the product "Precious Gem Hourglass", market it strongly ( "because your time is precious..." ) and share the profits between the GO members !
