So I have this huge over saturated teal blue spinel. Its 64ct and clean.
Only light transmitted is from a fairly strong torch. In other words, very dark tone.

I know there is heating of spinel for enhancing clarity, but is there any known treatment to lighten up spinel?
I dont even like the idea about any treatments of our dear spinels but it would be the only way to save it.
There might not be any treatment now but maybe in the future?
Anyone?
I guess I need to accept the tough truth, but its a shame with such a nice crystal otherwise.

:(

To the best of my knowledge there are no heat treatments for spinel. Dif fusion treatments to add saturation, yespecially, but no heat treatments to lighten.

At some point there was a thread where someone linked an article about heating being effective for lightening red spinel in some cases. I'll try and track it down later.
