I have a duplex II, and a GIA gem polariscope model 415. Is the 415 ok to use as a light source? I'm having some difficulty reading RI on some stones.

Is the entire scale well lit? If so, yes it should be fine.

Quick update, polarascope is working well as a light source. The problem was the refractometer's hemicylinder needed to be polished. A little cerium oxide and all is good. Thanks
