Do you enjoy cutting diamonds that are "interesting", instead of being merely "perfect"? For example, if diamond rough contains interesting carbon crystals, could you cut a diamond that might yield some interesting optics/ visuals? Colored stone equivalent examples that immediately come to mind are, say, rutilated quartz or emerald's jardin.

I have never seen diamonds with interesting included crystals, but I have seen some interesting HPHT yellow diamonds with interesting symmetrical color patterns visible through the 100 plane.

I once had a diamond ring that I really loved. It was over two carats, in an oval shape, set in platinum. It wasn't perfect, when graded on the 4 C scale,...but it was an extremely lively, sparkly diamond that garnered plenty of attention and compliments. One of the things I loved about it, besides the sparkle, was the fact that I could actually see little tiny black carbon crystals in the diamond with the aid of a loupe. It was beautifully cut and therefore said flaws were well camouflaged when viewed with the naked eye. However, I felt that I'd be able to spot this diamond out of a sea of similarly cut diamonds with a loupe if I had to. I liked the fact that it was different. It felt more "alive", to me, as silly as that must sound to an experienced diamond cutter like yourself.

I have been told of the story of a cut diamond with a red garnet crystal included, eye-visible, right under the table. No one was interested in this diamond. Until somebody had the idea to put it in a shop window with a label : "The diamond with a bleeding heart". The stone was sold immediately.

I would believe that. Now you have a polished diamond with a story of lost love connected to it and the visible red garnet inclusion is a symbol of that story.
